“A Hero’s Embrace” sculpture was inspired by both the tragic and heroic events that transpired on September 11th, 2001.
The sculpture, composed from clay, was completed in 2004, and the subsequent poster rendering was completed in 2006.
In 2006, the artist sent a poster along with a two-page letter to each Ladder/Engine Company and Firehouse under FDNY-over 225 in total.
The letter described a vision to have the sculpture become a larger-than-life memorial, showcased in a small and intimate park on lower Manhattan island, where all could visit, touch, and emotionally embrace its meaning.
