I would like to start by introducing myself, my name is Leif Kosatschkow, and I am an aspiring artist who hopes to give a breath of fresh air to what we know as modern art. I have many diversified works that are soon to arrive, and I'm eager to share them with all of you in upcoming months. However, since the seventh year anniversary is upon us, there is one project I would like to share with you entitled “A Hero’s Embrace”. This work was inspired in October of 2002 following the one year anniversary commemorating 9/11. I, like many others around the world, was deeply touched by the events that unfolded at Ground Zero. The best way I felt I could resolve my feelings was to harness them in the form of a sculpture, one that truly captures all elements that we seem to embrace or inadvertently ignore. The construction of “A Hero’s Embrace” started in July of 2003 and was completed sixteen months later. Characteristics of its construction include a wire armature needed to support a clay-like skin that hardens only when fired. This wire armature frame was fashioned with all-thread and plumber's tape. Aluminum filler was used in the interior of the structure to reduce weight, and a metallic bronze antique finish was applied to duplicate a weathered-like statue subjected to the elements. This work is approximately 20’’ tall with the Towers being 1:840 and Fire Rescuer 1:3 scale. The sculpture had been sitting in my apartment until April '06, when I decided that I needed to share this work with its rightful home -- FDNY and New York. My idea was to get this sculpture to all those who could appreciate it the most. This was to be done in the form of a large limited poster. I designed this print using a patriotic theme: muted and respectful; solemn, yet heroic -- the idea was to stir the soul without distracting the eye. These posters along with a two-page letter were then sent to each and every firehouse listed under FDNY (229 in all). This was not all I intended for “A Hero’s Embrace”; I envision this work adapted into a larger than life memorial to pay tribute to all those who perished on September 11, 2001, especially those of the New York Fire Department. My vision is to place a larger than life bronze version of "A Hero's Embrace" in a small yet beautiful park in Manhattan surrounded by trees, flowers, and park benches. I envision this memorial to feature a beautiful granite pattern containing all names and companies of FDNY as well as all civilians. Finally, it would feature a plaque placed in memoriam to all our Brothers and Loved ones we lost seven years ago. By purchasing a print, you can help share this gift with New York and its true Heroes. Thank you for your interest in Kosa Kreations, I hope to continue furthering my artistic ability and bring them to you in new and creative mediums, that are not only unique but truly touch the heart, spirit and soul. -- Leif Kosatschkow --
